CSS Reboot
Despite us launching our rebooted site a couple of weeks early, we still support the spirit of the CSS Reboot, where nearly a thousand websites decided to re-launch with new, standards-compliant, CSS-based designs.
Yesterday (1st November) was the reboot date and so far around 360 of the sites have updated the reboot site with screenshots of their new creations.
This kind of event is excellent for promoting standards-based design, which in turn aids things like future-proofing and accessibility. Obviously it's not enough to simply use CSS rather than tables or (please no!) frames for layout, thought is required when actually structuring the code and content semantically, as well as adding things like 'skip to content' links at the top of a page to skip the menus.
It's a good start though, and at least removes a bit more of the table clutter that's out there.
